Many students complains that they are unable to use graphics.h library in c programs. This is true for most of the systems. graphics.h library do not work on new laptops and desktop. I used to use this libray on my old desktop that I purchased in 2002. Although In my opinion if students are taught using graphics programming than they will find it interesting and will spend more time to learn programming and hence they will learn better than the traditional way of teaching.

I used to play with graphics.h library during my B.TECH. for many hours a day. I created a ball that keeps moving on computer screen and bounce back when reached to the boundry. I created a rangoli using many nested loops. While playing with the graphics library I discovered why parrallel processing is needed, how difficult it is to implement physics concepts to algorithms. I develop interest in graphics, animation and desiging while playing with graphics library.

Later I purchased a new laptop and installed TurboC as usual on it, everything else except graphics library was working fine on it. I searched on google about the issue and find that graphics.h library no longer supports new hardware and we can’t use it anymore. I search a lot about other graphics program and libraries I found openGL and many other libraries but those libraries are hard to use.

My search stops at open source programming language processing. That gives the most easy way to write a graphics program. It’s easy learning curve makes it more usable and popular. It’s open source so it’s free and it provides functions to create grahics, animation and interactions. Best thing about it that it is based on JAVA so it’s syntax is similar to C and many graphics.h library’s functions work on it.

You can produce 2D, 3D or PDF outputs. If you use OpenGL you can integrate it with processing. While graphics.h library was specially designed for windows, you can use processing in linux, mac os and windows. You can make it’s project to run online or same as other double clicked applications. You can extend it’s functionality to add sound, video and more.

What else to say, I just want all of you to downlod processing and start playing with processing from today. I know you are new for processing but if you know C or JAVA you will find it easy to learn it. You can start learning processing on processing website.

See you in my next article till than happy learning
